Phylum Pseudomonadota (Proteobacteria), Class Betaproteobacteria, Order Burkholderiales, Family Alcaligenaceae, Genus
Verticiella, Verticiella sediminum Vandamme 2016, type species of the genus.
Old synonyms: Achromobacter sediminum Zhang et al. 2014, Verticia sediminum
(Zhang et al. 2014) Vandamme et al. 2015.
Gram-negative rods, 0.2-0.3 x 0.8-1.2 μm, occuring single, in pairs. Motile by single
subpolar or lateral flagellum.
Colonies are cream, circular,1.0-1.5 mm in diameter, convex, opaque with entire
margins after growth on NA for 3 days at 28 ºC. Growth occurs at 4-42 ºC (optimum 28
ºC). Grows in 0-5% (w/v) NaCl (optimum 0-2%) and pH 5.0-8.0 (optimum pH 7.0).
Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from deep-sea sediment of the South Pacific Gyre.
Undetermined.
