Gram-negative (after 38 hours culture), motile rods, 0.6-0.8 / 2-5 μm. Produce
ellipsoidal spores. Swelling the sporangium is variable.
Colonies on peptone-urea agar are  whitish; colonies sink into the agar within a few
days, but do not liquefy it. Aerobic. No anaerobic growth. Chemo-organotrophic.
Maximum growth temperature 35 ºC, optimum 30 ºC. No growth at pH 5.7 or in 5%
NaCl. Growth is inhibited by peptones but inhibition may be neutralized by urea.
Isolated from volcanic soil, Paricutin volcano, Mexico. Susceptible to lysozyme.
