Old synonym: Bacillus aquimaris Yoon, Kim, Kang, Oh and Park 2003.
Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-variable rods, 0.5-0.7 x 1.2-3.5 µm, motile by means of peritrichous flagella.
Central, ellipsoidal endospores (0.6-0.8 x 1.0-1.4 µm) in swollen sporangia.
Colonies are pale orange-yellow, circular - slightly irregular, slightly raised, 2-4 mm in
diameter after 3 days at 30 ºC on Marine agar.
Grow aerobically, not anaerobically. Optimum growth at pH 6-7, no growth at ph 5 or 9.
NaCl is required for growth (can grow poor without NaCl, but occurs in the presence
of up to 18% NaCl). Optimal growth temperature is 30-37 ºC. Growth occurs at 10
and 44 ºC, not at 4 or above 45 ºC.
Allantoin or urate are not required.
Isolated from sea water of a tidal flat of the Yellow Sea in Korea.
