Synonym: Bacillus azotoformans Pichinoty et al. 1983.
Gram-negative or positive rods, 0.5-0.8 x 3.0-7.0 µm, motile by means of peritrichous
flagella. Terminal or subterminal ellipsoidal endospores (1.4 x 2-2.5 µm), swelling
the sporangia.
Colonies are partially translucent, with entire margins, up to 5 mm in diameter on
yeast extract agar. Growth requirements are complex; growth factors are required.
Aerobic. Growth is observed at pH 6 - 7; temperature range 30 to 42-46 ºC. NaCl is
not required for growth; no growth in 5-7% NaCl. Allantoin or urate are not required.
Isolated from garden soil by enrichment culture in peptone broth in N2O atmosphere. No growth in the presence of 0.001% lysozyme.
Susceptible to ciprofloxacin and norfloxacin.
