Phylum Bacillota (Firmicutes), Class Bacilli, Order Caryophanales, Family Bacillaceae, Genus Bacillus, Bacillus basilensis Muigg et

Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive, rod-shaped bacillus.
Colonies are grey, matt and exhibits large double-zone beta-hemolysis. Grows at
37 ºC under aerobic conditions. Can grow in 6.5% NaCl.
Isolated from human superficial skin swab.
Resistant to penicillin. Susceptible to clindamycin and vancomycin.

Positive results (VITEK®2 BCL card) for alanine arylamidase, esculin hydrolysis,
beta-N-acetyl-glucosaminidase, beta-glucosidase, phenylalanine arylamidase,
L-pyrolydonyl arylamidase, phosphoryl choline, pyruvate and tyrosine arylamidase.
Can utilize as carbon source: D-glucose, N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, D-ribose and D-trehalose.
Negative results for L-aspartate arylamidase, glycine arylamidase, alpha- and beta-galactosidase, alpha-glucosidase, leucine
arylamidase, L-lysine arylamidase, alpha- and beta-mannosidase, L-proline arylamidase and beta-xylosidase.
No utilization of: cyclodextrine, D-galactose, glycogen, myo-inositol, inulin, D-mannitol, D-mannose, D-melezitose, maltotriose,
methyl-alpha-D-glucopyranoside, methyl-D-xyloside, palatinose, L-rhamnose and D-tagatose.
