Gram-positive rods, 0.75 x 5.0 µm. Motile. Produce terminal, spherical endospores.
Colonies are rough and cream in colour. Growth occurs at 40-70 ºC (optimum growth
at 55-60 ºC), at pH range 6.0-10.0 (optimum pH is 7.5-8.0). Can grow in 4 % NaCl
broth. Facultative anaerobe.
Isolated from Gonen Hot Spring, Turkey.

Positive results for catalase (weak), gelatinase, oxidase and starch hydrolysis.
Can utilize: fructose glucose, glycogen, mannitol, raffinose, sucrose, starch and xylose.
Negative results for H2S production, indole production, and urease.
No utilization of: L-arabinose, D-mannose, L-rhamnose and lactose
Contradictory results for nitrate reduction.
