Synonym: Bacillus horikoshii Nielsen, Fritze and Priest 1995.
Rods of 0.6-0.7 x 2.0-4.0 µm. Produce subterminally, ellipsoidal endospores (0.5-0.7
x 0.7-1.2 µm) in sometimes slightly swollen sporangia.
Colonies are small, shiny, and creamy-white with entire margins. Aerobic. Anaerobic
growth was not tested. Growth occurs at pH 7 to 8 (optimum pH 8) and at 10-40 ºC.
Grow in nutrient broth with 2-9% NaCl added. Allantoin, urate or NaCl are not required
for growth.
Isolated from soil.

Positive results for hydrolysis of hippurate, hydrolysis of gelatin, hydrolysis of casein and hydrolysis of starch.
