Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive rods.
Grows well on blood agar at 37 ºC. Aerobic.
Isolated from the blood of a newborn child with sepsis.
Association with neonatal sepsis could not be determined.

Positive results for catalase, gelatinase, beta-galactosidase (ONPG), starch hydrolysis,
acid production from: beta-gentiobiose, D-mannitol, D-mannose, melibiose,
melezitose, raffinose, D-ribose, salicin and D-xylose.
Can utilize (API 50 CH): galactose, glucose, fructose, mannitol, sorbitol, methyl alpha-D-glucoside, N-acetylglucosamine, amygdalin,
arbutin, aesculin, salicin, maltose, melibiose, sucrose, trehalose, raffinose, starch, glycogen, gluconate, glycerol, 5-ketogluconate,
ribose, mannose, inositol, xylitol, gentiobiose and D-xylose.

Negative results for casein hydrolysis, nitrate reduction, oxidase, acid production from: D-adonitol, D- and L-arabinose, L-arabitol,
cellobiose, erythritol, D-fucose, glycogen, 2- and 5-ketogluconate, lactose, L-rhamnose, D-sorbose, turanose and L-xylose.
No utilization of cellobiose, lactose and inulin.
