Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive rods, 0.6- 1 x 1.2-4 µm. Non-motile. Produce round, terminal
endospores in swollen sporangia.
Colonies on Marine Agar are round, smooth, shiny, flat to raised and yellow. Growth
occurs at 25-45 ºC, with optimum growth at 30-35 ºC. The pH range for growth is 9-
12, with optimum growth at pH 10-11. Grows in 0-24% (w/v) NaCl with optimum
growth at 8-12% NaCl. No anaerobic growth.
Isolated from the salt pan at Nari along Bhavnagar coast, Gujarat, India.
Susceptible to gentamicin, kanamycin, vancomycin, streptomycin, tetracycline, ampicillin, chloramphenicol and penicillin-G.

Positive results for catalase, oxidase and starch hydrolysis.
Can use as sole carbon and energy source: maltose, D-pyruvate, D-fructose, raffinose, salicin, L-xylose, inulin, D-lactose and D-
glucose.
Negative results for: caseinase, citrate utilization, DNase, gelatinase, H2S production, indole production, methyl red test, nitrate
reduction, Tween 80 hydrolysis, urease, Voges-Proskauer test, acid production from: D-adonitol, arabinose, cellobiose, D-galactose,
inositol, mannitol, melibiose, rhamnose, sorbitol, sucrose and trehalose.
