Gram-positive, straight rods with rounded ends, 0.5-1.1 x 1.5-4.0 µm occuring singly or
in pairs. Filaments may be present. Motile by polar flagella.  Produce round spherical,
terminal, or subterminal, 0.8 to 1.0 µm in diameter, not swell
ing the sporangium.
Colonies on seawater agar (SWA ) are circular with an entire margin, flat, smooth,
translucent, nonpigmented, and 3-5 mm in diameter after 7 days incubation at 20 ºC.
Good growth with uniform turbidity and colorless sediment after 4 days at 20 ºC. in
SWB. Moderate to good growth occurrs at 5ºC, optimal growth is between 12 and 23

ºC. No growth was observed at 37 ºC. NaCl for optimal growth is between 3.0 and
3.5%. Slight growth occurs with 7% but not with
10% NaCl or without NaCl. Strictly
aerobic.
Isolated from Josephine Bank (North East Atlantic) sediment samples. Susceptible pteridin, terramycin, and penicillin G.

Voges-Proskauer test, acid production from: L-arabinose, D-cellobiose, D-galactose, mannitol, melibiose and raffinose.

Variable results for oxidase, acid production from: lactose, maltose,
mannose, trehalose and D-xylose.
