Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-variable rods, 0.4-0.7 x 1.3-8.5 µm. Motile by peritrichous flagella.  Produce
subterminal
, ellipsoidal endospores in slightly swollen sporangia.
Colonies on Marine Agar are circular to irregular, raised, glistening, smooth, light-
yellow in colour and 2.0-3.0 mm in diameter after 2 days incubation at 30 ºC. The
optimal growth temperature is 30 ºC; growth occurs at 4 and 40 ºC, but not at 45 ºC.
The optimal pH for growth is 7.0
-8.0; growth occurs at pH 6.0, but not at pH 5.5.
Optimal growth occurs in the presence of 2% (w/v) NaCl;
growth occurs at 0-18% (w/v)
NaCl. Mg2+ ions are
required for growth. No anaerobic growth.
Isolated from a marine saltern located on the coast of the Yellow Sea, Korea.
Susceptible to ampicillin, carbenicillin, cephalothin, chloramphenicol, gentamicin, kanamycin, lincomycin, neomycin, novobiocin,
oleandomycin, penicillin G, streptomycin and tetracycline. Resistant to polymyxin B.

Positive results for caseinase, catalase, aesculin hydrolysis, esterase (C4), esterase lipase (C8), oxidase, Tween 80 hydrolysis
(weakly), acid production from: cellobiose (weakly), D-fructose, D-galactose, D-glucose, maltose, D-mannitol, melezitose, D-ribose,
sucrose and trehalose.


Negative results for: acid and alkaline phosphatase, cystine arylamidase,
DNase, alpha-fucosidase, gelatinase, alpha- and beta-
