Gram-positive rods, 0.9-1.1 x 2.5-4.0 µm. Motile by peritrichous flagella.  Produce
ellipsoidal
endospores that lie in central unswollen sporangia.
Colonies are yellow-pigmented, circular, somewhat convex and non-translucent with
glistening surfaces and 1-2 mm in diameter on Marine Agar. No diffusible pigments
are produced. Slightly halophilic. Growth occurs with 0-20% (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 2
-
5%), at pH 6.0-10.5 (optimum, pH 7.0-8.0) and at 10-45 ºC (optimum, 30-35 ºC).
Good growth also occurs in the
presence of 0.1-23% (w/v) KCl (optimum, 2-4%) or
0.1-
-25% (w/v) MgCl26H2O (optimum, 2-5%). Strictly aerobic.
Isolated from non-saline forest soil in Hunan Province, China.

hydrolysis, urease, valine arylamidase acid production from: D-fructose, D-glucose, glycerol, D-mannitol, D-ribose, sucrose and
trehalose.
Can utilize as sole source of carbon and energy: D-glucose, trehalose, L-arabinose, cellobiose, dextrin, D-fructose, D-galactose,
glycogen, lactose, maltose, D-mannose, melezitose, melibiose, raffinose, L-rhamnose, D-ribose, sucrose, D-xylose, adonitol,
glycerol and myo-inositol.

Negative results for: alpha-chymotrypsin, DNase, esterase lipase (C8), alpha-fucosidase, alpha- and beta-galactosidase, gelatinase,
alpha-glucosidase, beta-glucuronidase, indole production, leucine arylamidase, alpha-mannosidase, methyl red, nitrate reduction, N-
acetyl beta-glucosaminidase, Voges-Proskauer test, Tween 20 and 80, xanthine, hypoxanthine, acid production from: adonitol, L-
arabinose, dulcitol, D-galactose, myo-inositol, lactose, maltose, D-mannose, melezitose, melibiose, raffinose, L-rhamnose, D-
salicin, D-sorbitol and D-xylose.
