Phylum Bacillota (Firmicutes), Class Bacilli, Order Caryophanales, Family Bacillaceae, Genus Bacillus, Priestia koreensis (Lim et al.
2006) Gupta et al. 2020. Speies description is based on a single isolate.
Synonym: Bacillus koreensis Lim, Jeon, Lee, Ju, Park and Kim 2006.
Gram-positive, motile rods, 0.8-1.6 x 1.6-2.8 µm, producing oval, central spores.
Colonies are yellow-cream, smooth, convex and slightly irregular. Aerobic. Grow at pH
4.5-9.0 (optimum pH 7.0). Temperature range 15-48 ºC; optimum growth at 35 or 40
ºC. NaCl is not required for growth; tolerates up to 9% NaCl. Optimum growth occurs
in nutrient broth with 0-3% NaCl added.
Isolated from the rhizosphere of willow roots in Korea.

Positive results for catalase, hydrolysis of esculin, hydrolysis of urea, hydrolysis of casein, hydrolysis of starch, acid production from:
D-glucose, glycerol, fructose, lactose, maltose, melibiose, raffinose, ribose, sucrose and trehalose.
Negative results for degradation of tyrosine, oxidase, nitrate reduction, methyl red, hydrolysis of Tween 80, acid production from:
L-arabinose, adonitol, D-mannitol, D-mannose, rhamnose, D-or L-xylose.
