Phylum Bacillota (Firmicutes), Class Bacilli, Order Caryophanales, Family Bacillaceae, Genus Bacillus, Bacillus manliponensis Jung
et al. 2011.
Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive, straight rods, 1.5-2.0 x 6.0-7.8 µm, occuring singly or in pairs. Motile by
peritrichous flagella. Produce terminal, ellipsoidal endospores, not deforming the cells.
Colonies on TSA agar are 2.0-3.2 mm in diameter, circular, convex, translucent to
semi-opaque, white gray, and shiny with smooth or erose margin. Grows at 15-40 ºC
(optimum at 30 ºC), at pH 5.0-9.0 (optimum pH 7.0) and not in 7% NaCl. Facultatively
anaerobic.
Isolated from oil-contaminated tidal flat sediment collected from Malipo in the Yellow Sea coastal region of Tae-An, Republic of Korea.
