pecies description is based upon a single isolate.
Gram-negative, endospore-forming, motile (peritrichous flagella), straight rods,
0.3-0.5 x 1.5-4.0 µm.
Colonies are smooth, shiny, white-greyish, 1-2 mm in diameter on sheep-blood agar
at 30 ºC; growth also in TSB.
Growth temperature 25-45 ºC. Aerobic. Grows in 5% NaCl.
Isolated from a sample of cerebrospinal fluid from a 54-year-old man with cerebellar syndrome and diarrhoea episodes diagnosed
with Whipple’s disease.
Resistant to ceftazidime, fosfomycin and aztreonam. Sensitive to amoxycillin, augmentin, ceftriaxone, ticarcillin, claventin, imipinem,
ciprofloxacin, gentamicin (10 IU), amikacin, tobramycin, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, rifampicin, ofloxacin, colistin, piperacillin-
tazobactam, isepamycin, chloramphenicol, tetracycline and streptomycin.
