Phylum Bacillota (Firmicutes), Class Bacilli, Order Caryophanales, Family Bacillaceae, Genus Bacillus, Bacillus nitratireducens Liu et
al. 2017.
Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive rods, 1.0-1.5 x 2.7-3.0 µm. Non-motile. Produce central, elliptical
endospores. Sporangia are not deformed (admin note).
Colonies on LB medium are off-white, rhizoidal and non-translucent after incubation
at 32 ºC for 48 h. Growth occurs at 7-39 ºC (optimum 30 ºC), at pH 5-9 (optimum pH 7)
and with 0-9% (w/v) NaCl (optimum 0%). Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from sediment of the Pacific Ocean.
