Phylum Bacillota (Firmicutes), Class Bacilli, Order Caryophanales, Family Bacillaceae, Genus Bacillus, Bacillus proteolyticus Liu et
al. 2017.
Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive rods, 1.6-1.8 x 2.8-3.6 µm. Non-motile. Produce central, elliptical
endospores. Sporangia are not deformed (admin note).
Colonies on LB medium are milk white, circular, non-translucent and 2-3 mm in
diameter after incubation at 32 ºC for 48 h . Growth occurs at 15-39 ºC (optimum 30 ºC),
at pH 5-10 (optimum pH 8) and with 0-9% (w/v) NaCl (optimum 0-1%). Facultatively
anaerobic.
Isolated from sediment of the Pacific Ocean.
