Phylum Bacillota (Firmicutes), Class Bacilli, Order Caryophanales, Family Bacillaceae, Genus Bacillus, Bacillus sanguinis Tohya et
al. 2021.
Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive rods, 1.0-1.1x 2.0-4.0 µm. Non-motile. Produce central ellipsoidal
endospores in unswollen sporangia.
Colonies on LB agar are circular, white and usually 3-7 mm in diameter after growth
for 2days at 30 ºC. Growth occurs at 8-44 ºC, at pH 6.0-9.0 and at NaCl concentrations
of 0-6.0% (w/v). Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from a blood sample of a patient in Japan.

Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, citrate utilization, alpha-fucosidase, alpha- and beta-galactosidase, beta-glucosidase,
beta-glucuronidase, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, H2S production, indole production, lysine decarboxylase, alpha-mannosidase,
ornithine decarboxylase, tryptophan desaminase, urease, acid production from: D- and L-arabinose, D-adonitol, D- and L-arabitol,
dulcitol, erythritol, D- and L-fucose, D-galactose, gentiobiose, gluconate, inositol, inulin, 2- and 5-ketogluconate, D-lyxose, lactose,
D-mannose, D-mannitol, melezitose, melibiose, methyl alpha-D-mannopyranoside, methyl alpha-D-glucopyranoside, raffinose,
