Bacillus licheniformis .
Gram-positive, motile rods, 1.0 x 2.0-5.0 µm. Produce subterminal, ellipsoidal
endospores (0.9-1.0 x 1.5-2.0 µm) in unswollen sporangia.
Colonies are yellowish cream, with mounds and lobes of amorphous slime, 2-4 mm
in diameter after 2 days at 30 ºC; colonies on tyrosine agar are brown. Growth
temperature 20-55 ºC, pH 6-7. Grows in 2-3% NaCl, (up to 8% NaCl in Kim's study).
NaCl, alantoin or urate are not required for growth. Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from desert soils, Sonoran Desert, Arizona, USA. No growth in the presence of lysozyme.

2S production, indole production, methyl red test, lysine decarboxylase, ornithine
decarboxylase and tryptophan deaminase, tyrosine degradation, acid production from: D- and L-arabitol, erythritol, D- and L-fucose,
gentibiose, glycerol, glycogen, gluconate, inositol, inulin, 2- and 5-ketogluconate, maltose, melibiose, melezitose, methyl
alpha-D-mannoside, raffinose, sorbose, D-tagatose, xylitol, methyl D-xyloside and L-xylose.

Variable results for citrate utilization, urease, Voges-Proskauer reaction, acid production from L-arabinose.
