Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive, long rods (0.7-0.8 x 5.5-6.5 µm). Motile. Produce spores.
Colonies are smooth, transparent, circular, and light ivory in color and 3-4 mm in
diameter after 3 days of incubation on marine agar at 25 ºC. Growth also occurs on
nutrient agar and TSA, but not on MacConkey agar. Growth occurs at 20-37 ºC
(optimum 25 ºC), at pH 6-10 (optimum pH 6) and in 0-8% (w/v) NaCl. Aerobic.
Isolated from a sponge on Jeju Island, Republic of Korea.

Positive results for acid and alkaline phosphatase, catalase, aesculin hydrolysis, esterase (C4), gelatinase, beta-galactosidase,
leucine arylamidase (weak), nitrate reduction, naphtol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase, oxidase and urease.
Can assimilate / utilize: L-arabinose, N-acetyl-glucosamine, citrate, D-maltose, acetate, DL-lactate, L-histidine, 4-hydroxy-benzoate,
2-ketogluconate, D-mannose, D-mannitol, propionate and L-proline.
Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, caseinase, cystine arylamidase, carboxymethyl-cellulose hydrolysis, cellulose hydrolysis,
DNase, alpha-fucosidase, alpha- and beta-galactosidase, alpha- and beta-glucosidase, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, indole
production, lipase (C14), alpha-mannosidase, starch hydrolysis, trypsin, Tween-80 hydrolysis, acid production from glucose.
Does not assimilate: adipate, L-fucose, caprate, valerate, glycogen, 3-hydroxy-butyrate, inositol, itaconate, 5-ketogluconate, malonate,
L-rhamnose and suberate.
