Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive rods, 0.5-2.0 x 3.0-5.0 µm. Motile. Spores are ellipsoidal, located
terminally, swelling the sporangium.
Cells grow aerobically at temperatures ranging from 37 ºC to 65 ºC, with optimal
growth at 63 ºC. The pH range suitable for growth is 5.5-9.0, with optimal growth at pH
6.0.
No growth in 5% NaCl. Yeast extract, glucose, trehalose and xylose support the
growth.
Exopolysaccharide production. Aerobic.
Isolated from the geothermal soil of Mount Melbourne, Antarctica.
Unknown (none).
