Phylum Bacillota (Firmicutes), Class Bacilli, Order Caryophanales, Family Bacillaceae, Genus Bacillus, Bacillus thermotolerans Yang et
al. 2013.
Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive rods, 0.7-0.8 mm x 1.0-1.2 µm. Non-motile. Produce central or
paracentral endospores in non-swollen sporangia.
Colonies are light brown, circular with entire edges, convex, 0.8–1.2 mm in diameter
after 12 h of aerobic growth on TSA at 50 ºC. Growth occurs at 20-65 ºC (optimum 50
ºC), at pH 6.0-9.0 (optimum
6.5-7.0 and in the presence of 0-9.0% (w/v) NaCl (optimum
1.5–2.0% (w/v) NaCl).
Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from a high-temperature compost, PR China.

galactose, D-glucose, glycerol, glycogen, gentiobiose, potassium gluconate, potassium 2-ketogluconate, inositol, inulin, lactose, D-
mannitol, D-mannose, maltose, melibiose, melezitose, methyl alpha-D-mannopyranoside, methyl alpha-D-glucopyranoside,
raffinose, L-rhamnose, salicin, D-sorbitol, sucrose, starch, turanose, trehalose, methyl beta-D-xylopyranoside, xylitol, D- and L-xylose.
