Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive rods, 0.50-0.58 x 1.70-1.90 µm. Motile by peritrichous flagella. Produce
subterminal endospores.
Colonies are white and semi-translucent with smooth surfaces. Growth occurs at
10-50 ºC (optimum 30 ºC), at pH 6.0-9.0 (optimum 7.0) and in the presence of 0-7%
(w/v) NaCl (optimum 2-4% (w/v) NaCl). Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from a marine sediment sample collected from the South China Sea.

Positive results for amylase, catalase, gelatinase, oxidase and Tween 40 hydrolysis.
Can utilize as sole nitrogen source: methionine, lysine, alanine, phenylalanine, histidine, and glutamate.
Can utilize as sole carbon source: glucose, glycerol, maltose and aesculin.

Negative results for cellulose hydrolysis
and urease.
No utilization as sole nitrogen source: glycine, threonine, arginine, tryptophan, tyrosine and asparagine.
No utilization as sole carbon source: 2- and 5-ketogluconate, amygdalin, arbutin, cellobiose, D-adonitol, D-arabinose, D-arabitol,
D-fucose, D-galactose, D-lyxose, D-mannitol, D-ribose, D-tagatose, turanose, dulcitol, inositol, D-xylose, erythritol, fructose,
gentiobiose, gluconate, glycogen, inulin, lactose, L-arabinose, L-arabitol, L-fucose, L-rhamnose, L-sorbose, L-xylose, mannose,
melezitose, methyl alpha-D-glucoside, melibiose, methyl alpha-D-mannoside, methyl beta-D-xyloside, N-acetylglucosamine,
raffinose, salicin, sorbitol, sucrose, trehalose and xylitol.
