Synonym: Bacillus vietnamensis Noguchi et al. 2004.
Gram-positive, motile (peritrichous flagella), rods, 0.5-1.0 x 2.0-3.0 µm. Produce
central, ellipsoidal endospores in unswollen sporangia.
Grow on TSA and TSB. Aerobic. Growth temperature 10-50 ºC (optimum 30-40 ºC).
Alkaliphilic, grow in pH 7-10. Moderately halotolerant, grow in 0-15% NaCl media.
Isolated from Vietnamese fish sauce and from the Gulf of Mexico. Grows in the presence of lysozyme.
