Burkholderia, Burkholderia lata Vanlaere et al. 2009.
Gram-negative rods. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are moist. Grows on MacConkey agar and on BCSA where and some strains
turn the medium alkaline. Growth is observed at 30 and 37 ºC but not at 42 ºC. Some
strains are yellow pigmented or yellow-purple pigmented. Usually not
haemolytic. Aerobic.
Isolated from clinical, environmental (forest soil) and industrial samples.

Positive results for lysine decarboxylase, oxidase, acid production from: glucose,
maltose, lactose and xylose.
Can assimilate glucose, D-mannose, D-mannitol, N-acetylglucosamine, D-gluconate, adipate, L-malate and citrate.
Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, tryptophanase and urease.
Variable results for nitrate reduction, gelatin liquefaction, ornithine decarboxylase, aesculin hydrolase, beta-galactosidase,
acidification of sucrose and adonitol, assimilation of L-arabinose, caprate, maltose and phenylacetate.
