Gram-negative rods. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are moist, sometimes mucoid. Grows on MacConkey agar and on BCSA
where turn the medium acidic. Growth is observed at 30, 37 and 42 ºC.
Non-pigmented. Some strains produce a diffusing, melanin-like, brown pigment at 37
and 42 ºC on Luria–Bertani agar. Non-haemolytic. Aerobic.
Isolated from sputum of cystic fibrosis patients.

Positive results for lysine decarboxylase, beta-galactosidase, oxidase,
acid production from: adonitol, glucose, sucrose, maltose, lactose & xylose.
Can assimilate glucose, L-arabinose, D-mannose, D-mannitol, N-acetylglucosamine, D-gluconate, caprate, adipate, L-malate,
citrate and phenylacetate.
Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, esculin hydrolysis, nitrate reduction, ornithine decarboxylase, tryptophanase and urease.
No assimilation of maltose.
Variable results for gelatin liquefaction.
