Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-negative rods. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are circular with entire margins, off-white. Optimum growth temperature is
30 ºC with growth at 15 and 45 ºC but not at 50 ºC. Optimum pH 6.5 with growth at pH
5.7 and 8.5, but not at pH 9.5.
Carbon monoxide is oxidized aerobically.
Isolated from volcanic soils from Kilauea Volcano (Hawaii, USA).

Can utilize acetate (weak), alanine, benzoate, caprate, dimethylamine, fructose, formate (weak), galactose, gluconate, glucuronate
(weak), glucose, glutamate, alpha-ketoglutarate, glycerol, glutamate, beta-hydroxybutyrate, lactate, malate (weak), malonate (weak),
mannitol, mannose, N-acetylglucosamine, phenylacetate, proline, propionate (weak), pyruvate, succinate, tartrate (weak),
trimethylamine and valine.
Negative results for arginine dihydrolase and beta-galactosidase.
No utilization of arabinose, aspartate, betaine, glycine, isopropanol, lactose, maltose, methanol, methylamine, phenylalanine,
phthalate and ribose.
Variable results for utilization of adipate and citrate.
