Phylum Pseudomonadota (Proteobacteria), Class Betaproteobacteria, Order Burkholderiales, Family Burkholderiaceae, Genus
Quisquiliibacterium, Quisquiliibacterium transsilvanicum Felfoldi et al. 2017, type species of the genus.
Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-negative short rods, 0.6–0.7 x 1.0–1.2 μm. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies on nutrient medium are beige-coloured, circular and raised with a diameter
of 1 mm. Growth occurs after 4-6 days of incubation, at pH 7-8, at 10-45 ºC (optimum
at 25-30 ºC) and 0-2% NaCl concentration (optimum 0-1%). Aerobe.
Isolated from an activated sludge sample of a bioreactor, which treated the leachate of a landfill site located in Odorheiu Secuiesc,
Romania.

Positive results for acid phosphatase (weak), alkaline phosphatase, arginine dihydrolase, catalase, alpha-chymotrypsin, cystine
arylamidase, esterase (C4), esterase lipase (C8), leucine arylamidase, naphtholAS-BI-phosphohydrolase, nitrate reduction to nitrite
(not to N2), oxidase and urease.
Can assimilate adipic acid.
Negative results for esculin hydrolysis, alpha-fucosidase, gelatin hydrolysis, alpha- and beta-galactosidase, beta-glucuronidase,
alpha- and beta-glucosidase, indole production, lipase (C14), alpha-mannosidase, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, trypsin and
valine arylamidase, acid production from D-glucose.
No utilization of D-adonitol, amygdalin, D- and L-arabinose, D- and L-arabitol, capric acid, cellobiose, citrate, dulcitol, erythritol,
esculin, D-fructose, D- and L-fucose, D-galactose, gentiobiose, gluconate, D-glucose, glycerol, glycogen, inositol, inulin, 2- and
5-ketogluconate, lactose, D-lyxose, malic acid, maltose, D-mannitol, D-mannose, melezitose, melibiose, methyl
