Accommodates strains previously known as the R. solanacearum phylotype I and III.
Gram-negative rods. May be motile or non-motile (the type strain is non-motile).
Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are irregular, convex and have diameters of less than 1 mm on Casamino
acid peptone glucose agar medium after 1-3 days of incubation at 28 ºC. Aerobic.
Grows on MacConkey agar. NaCl addition is not required.
Isolated from Pelargonium capitatum, Casuarina equisetifolia, tomato and potato.

Positive results for catalase, nitrate reduction (most strains), oxidase, Tween 80 hydrolysis, acid production (oxidatively) from glucose,
lactose, maltose, fructose, glycerol, D-arabinose, galactose and sucrose.
Can utilize citrate, acetic acid, Tweens 40 and 80, D-fructose, alpha-D-glucose, myo-inositol, trehalose, pyruvic acid methyl ester,
succinic acid monomethyl ester, cis-aconitic acid, citric acid, D-galacturonic acid, D-gluconic acid, D-glucuronic acid,
beta-hydroxybutyric acid, DL-lactic acid, bromosuccinic acid, glucuronamide, L-alaninamide, D- and L-alanine, L-asparagine,
L-aspartic acid, L-histidine, L-proline, L-pyroglutamic acid and L-serine.
Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, DNase, esculin hydrolysis, gelatin hydrolysis, lysine decarboxylase, ornithine
decarboxylase, phenylalanine deaminase, starch hydrolysis, acid production from L-rhamnose and ethanol.
No assimilation of malonate and D-glucosaminic acid.
Variable results for the utilization of cellobiose, lactose, maltose, mannitol, sorbitol, propionic acid and p-hydroxyphenylacetic acid.
