Phylum Pseudomonadota (Proteobacteria), Class Epsilonproteobacteria, Order Campylobacterales, Family Campylobacteraceae,
Genus Campylobacter, Campylobacter iguaniorum Gilbert et al. 2015.
Gram-negative, slightly curved to spiral-shaped rods.
After incubation on Colombia agar + 5% sheep blood in a microaerobic atmosphere
at 37 ºC for 48 h, colonies are beige to taupe, glossy, slightly convex, round with
smooth margins, 1-1.5 mm in diameter and show alpha-haemolysis. Grows under
microaerobic and anaerobic conditions (although growth is scanty anaerobically), but
not under aerobic conditions. H2 is not required for growth. Can grow in 72h at 25 ºC
and 37 ºC temperature, but not at 42 ºC.
Grows in the presence of 1% glycine, on IST agar and slightly inhibited growth on
CCD, Mueller-Hinton, Preston and Skirrow agar at 37 ºC. No growth in 2% NaCl or
0.04% TTC.
Isolated from from lizard and chelonian intestinal content; a green iguana (Iguana iguana) and a bearded dragon (Pogona vitticeps).
Resistant to nalidixic acid (30 μg) but susceptible to cephalotin (30 μg).
Undetermined.

Positive results for alkaline phosphatase, TTC reduction, oxidase, catalase, gamma-glutamyltransferase, H2S production (TSI) and
nitrate reduction.
Negative results for hippurate hydolysis, indoxyl acetate hydrolysis, selenite reduction and urea hydrolysis.
