Gram-negative, curved to spiral cells. Coccoid forms are present in some cultures.
Motile.
After 72h culture at 37 ºC under microaerobic conditions on anaerobe basal agar with
blood (ABA-B), colonies are glistening, opaque, convex and circular with entire
margins and are 1-2mm in diameter. Growth occurs on ABA-B at both 37 and 42 ºC
under microaerobic conditions and at 37 ºC under anaerobic conditions. No growth
on ABA-B at 30 ºC under microaerobic conditions or at any temperature under aerobic
conditions. Human-isolated strains didn't grow microerobically at 42 ºC. No
alpha-haemolytic activity. Growth is not supported on ABA-B with a final NaCl
concentration of 2% (w/v), with 1% (w/v) glycine or on 0.04% (w/v) TTC. H2 is not
required for growth.
Isolated from wild boar faeces. Isolated from feces of a 50-year-old immunocompromised male patient with gastroenteritis and from
a 68-year-old female patient suffering from gastroenteritis with bloody liquid stools, fever, and abdominal pain for 3 weeks in France.
Resistant to 30mg / l cephalothin and to 30mg / l nalidixic acid.
Undetermined. May be involved in human gastroenteritis.

Positive results for alkaline phosphatase, catalase, nitrate reduction, oxidase and TTC reduction.
Negative results for H2S production on TSI, gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase, hippurate hydrolysis, indoxyl acetate hydrolysis, selenite
reduction and urease.
