Chitiniphilus shinanonensis

Colonies are pale yellow, smooth, circular, with rhizoid margins. Growth occurrs at 14-
45 ºC (optimum, 30-37 ºC).No growth in the presence of 4 % (w/v) NaCl. Facultatively
anaerobic. Grows well with chitin as a sole carbon source. Grows on R2A agar.

Isolated from moat water of Ueda Castle in Nagano Prefecture, Japan.

naphtol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase, oxidase and trypsin (weak).
Can utilize (API 50 CHB): amygdalin, N-acetyglucosamine, D-cellobiose (weak), esculin ferric citrate, D-fructose (weak), D-glucose,
gentibiose (weak), ribose and salicin.
Negative results for cystine arylamidase, alpha-chymotrypsin, alpha-fucosidase, alpha- and beta-galactosidase, beta-glucosidase,
beta-glucuronidase, gelatin hydrolysis, indole production, lipase (C14), alpha-mannosidase, urease, valine arylamidase, acid
production from glucose.
No utilization (API 50 CHB) of: D-adonitol, D- and L-arabinose, D- and L-arabitol, arbutin, dulcitol, erythritol, D- and L-fucose,
