Phylum Bacillota (Firmicutes), Class Clostridia, Order Eubacteriales, Family Clostridiaceae, Genus Clostridium, Cluster I
(Clostridium sensu stricto), Clostridium pascui Wilde, Collins and Hippe 1997.
Gram-negative straight or slightly bent rods, 0.75-1.0 x 3.2-8.0 µm, occur singly or in
pairs. Motile. Spores are elliptical, subterminal, swelling the cell.
On blood sheep agar, colonies are nonhemolytic, round, opaque, white-gray, 1-2 mm
in diameter. Anaerobic.
Optimum temperature for growth is 37-40 ºC. Grows at 10 ºC and 43 ºC. No growth at
45.5 ºC.
Range of pH 5.5- 9.0, optimum 6.4-7.8.
Ferments glutamate and histidine; acid and gas produced. Fermentation end
products include acetate, butyrate, ethanol, H2, and CO2 .
Isolated from a donkey pasture in Pakistan; actual habitat unkown and may be the intestinal tract of the donkey.
Sensitive to tetracycline, chloramphenicol, rifampin and neomycin.

amygdalin, arabinose, cellobiose, fructose, galactose, glucose, glycogen, inositol, inulin, lactose, maltose, mannitol, mannose,
melezitose, melibiose, raffinose, rhamnose, salicin, sorbitol, sorbose, starch, sucrose, trehalose & xylose.
Variable and weak reaction for ribose fermentation.
