Phylum Pseudomonadota (Proteobacteria), Class Gammaproteobacteria, Order Enterobacterales, Family Erwiniaceae, Genus Erwinia,
Erwinia iniecta Campillo et al. 2015.
Synonym (not valid): "Winslowiella iniecta" (Campillo et al. 2015) Brady et al. 2022.
Gram-negative rods, 0.5-0.7 x 1.5-2 μm. Motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are light-beige, circular, 1-2 mm in diameter, translucent, with entire
margins, after 24 h incubation at 28 uC on nutrient agar. No specific pigment
(diffusible or fluorescent) is observed. The optimal growth temperature is 28 ºC.
Grows at 37 ºC but not at 42 ºC and in 1% NaCl, but not in 4% NaCl.
Isolated from crushed bodies of Russian wheat aphid (Diuraphis noxia), artificial diets after Russian wheat aphid feeding and
ground, surface-decontaminated wheat leaves.

Positive results for acetoin production, catalase and nitrate reduction.
Can utilize sucrose, melibiose, amygdalin, D-xylose, D-mannose, arbutin, aesculin, salicin, cellobiose, maltose, gentiobiose, raffinose,
lactose, D-arabitol, glycerol and D-fucose.
Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, gelatin liquefaction, H2S production, beta-galactosidase, lysine decarboxylase, nitrite
reductase ornithine decarboxylase, oxidase and urease.
No utilization of citrate, D-adonitol, D-arabinose, D-lyxose, erythritol and xylitol.
