Gram-negative rods.
Colonies on nutrient agar are small, round-shaped, white, opaque and flat, 0.5-1 mm in
diameter after 17 hours. Pectinolytic. Grow at 37 ºC and on Luria–Broth with 5% NaCl.
Isolated from potato stems in Finland, Poland and the Netherlands.
Has a low maceration ability on potato tuber tissue and inhibit growth of Dickeya solani in dual culture.

Biochemically very similar to Pectobacterium polaris.

Positive results for catalase.
Can utilize (Biolog GN III) sucrose, beta-methyl-glucoside, D-salicin, N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, alpha-D-glucose, D-mannose,
D-fructose, D-galactose, L-rhamnose, D-mannitol, myo-inositol, glycerol, D-glucose-6-phosphate, L-aspartic acid, D-galacturonic
acid, mucic acid, L-malic acid, D-aspartic acid, D-fructose-6-phosphate, L-galactonic acid-lactone, acetic acid, D-gluconic acid,
D-saccharic acid, pectin, bromosuccinic acid, D-trehalose, alpha-D-lactose, D-cellobiose, D-melibiose, D-raffinose, L-glutamic acid,
formic acid, sodium butyrate, inosine, and L-serine.

Negative results for oxidase.
No utilization of alpha-methyl-glucoside, citric acid, L-arginine, L-acetyl neuramininc acid, L-histidine, L-pyroglutamic acid, quinic acid,
p-hydroxyphenylacetic acid, D-lactic acid methyl ester, sodium bromate, gelatin, glucuronamide, gamma-aminobutyic acid, D-malic
acid, beta-hydroxy-DL-butyric acid, propionic acid, N-acetyl-D-galactosamine, D- and L-fucose, 3-methyl glucose, D-arabitol,
D-turanose, alpha-ketoglutaric acid, alpha-ketobutyric acid, L-alanine, glycyl-L-proline, D-maltose, N-acetyl-D-mannosamine,
D-serine, D-sorbitol, L-lactic acid, dextrin, alpha-hydroxybutyric acid, acetoacetic acid and Tween 40.
