Gram-positive cells. Non-motile.
Colonies on Columbia agar or tripticase soy agar (TSA) with 5% sheep blood are not
pigmented, circular with an entire margin, shiny and 1 mm in diameter after 24 h of
growth at 35 ºC. No growth occurs on TSA without sheep blood. Grows at 10 and 45
ºC. Can grow with bile esculin, esculin, and 6.5% (w/v) NaCl broth.
Isolated from faecal material of a dead timber rattlesnake (Crotalus horridus).

Positive results for alpha- and beta-glucosidase, alpha-galactosidase, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, glycl-tryptophan arylamidase,
hippurate hydrolysis, pyroglutamic acid arylamidase, leucine aminopeptidase, and Voges-Proskauer test, acid production from
glycerol, glucose (without gas production), inulin, lactose, maltose, mannitol, ribose, sorbose, sucrose, trehalose, methyl
alpha-D-glucopyranoside, methyl beta-D-glucopyranoside, tagatose and xylose.
Negative results for alkaline phosphatase, arginine dihydrolase, alanine-phenylalanine-proline arylamidase, catalase,
beta-galactosidase, beta-glucuronidase, starch hydrolysis, tellurite, urease, acid production from arabinose, D-arabitol, cyclodextrin,
glycogen, melezitose, and pullulan.
Variable results for acid production from sorbitol, raffinose or melibiose.
