Phylum Bacillota (Firmicutes), Class Bacilli, Order Lactobacillales, Family Enterococcaceae, Genus Enterococcus, Enterococcus

Gram-positive, spherical or ovoid cells, 0.7–1 µm in diameter, occuring in pairs or
chains. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are circular, low-convex, white with entire margins, non-pigmented and
approximately 0.6-0.7 mm in diameter after incubation at 30 ºC for 2 days.
Alpha-haemolytic. Facultatively anaerobic. Grows at 10-45 ºC (optimally at 30-37 ºC),
at pH 6.0-10.0 (optimally at pH 7.0-7.5) and in 8% (w/v) NaCl.
Isolated from a cotton flower (Gossypium hirsutum L.), in Thailand.

acid production from D-fructose, D-glucose, N-acetylglucosamine, and D-mannose.
Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, catalase, esculin hydrolysis, nitrate reduction, slime production from sucrose, production of
diacetyl, acid production from D-adonitol, amygdalin, D- and L-arabinose, D- and L-arabitol, arbutin, cellobiose, dulcitol, esculin,
erythriol, D- and L-fucose, D-galactose, gentiobiose, glycerol, glycogen, inositol, inulin, gluconate, 2- and 5-ketogluconate, lactose,
