Gram-positive, ovoid cells, grouped mostly in pairs or short chain. Nonmotile.
Colonies on blood agar or nutrient agar are circular, smooth, and entire. A yellow
pigment is produced. Nonhemolytic. Growth occurs at 10 and 45 ºC, in 6.5% NaCl,
and at pH 9.6. Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from cows, the hands of milkers, plants and soil.

beta-galactosidase, leucine arylamidase, pyrolidonylarylamidase, acid production
from N-acetylglucosamine, amygdalin, L-arabinose, arbutin, cellobiose, D-fructose,
galactose, beta-gentiobiose, lactose, maltose, D-mannose, mannitol, melibiose, ribose, salicin, sucrose, trehalose, D-xylose,
alpha-methyl-D-mannoside, D-raffinose, and rhamnose.

Negative results for catalase, alkaline phosphatase, acid production from: adonitol, D-arabinose, D- or L-arabitol, dulcitol, erythritol,
D- or L-fucose, glycogen, gluconate, inositol, 2-keto-gluconate, 5-keto-gluconate, D-lyxose, melezitose, alpha-methyl-D-glucoside,
alpha-methyl-xyloside, L-sorbose, D-tagatose, D-turanose, xylitol, and L-xylose.

Variable results for alpha-galactosidase, acid production from glycerol, sorbitol, and starch.
