Reacts with Lancefield group D antisera.
Gram-positive,ovoid cocci elongated in the direction of the chains, occurring in pairs,
short chains or small groups. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
On Columbia agar supplemented with 5% sheep blood and on BHI agar, colonies
are yellowish, smooth and circular with entire margins (1 mm in diameter after
cultivation at 37 ºC for 24 h). Grows on KAA agar with positive aesculin reaction
and grows weakly on Slanetz and Bartley medium with tiny dark-red colonies. Grows
at 10 ºC and 45 ºC, at pH 9.6 and with 6.5% NaCl.
Isolated from flowers of Aegopodium sp., Campanula sp., Melampyrum sp., Carex sp., Carduus sp., Leontodon sp., and from the
entire plant

Positive results for esculin hydrolysis, beta-glucosidase, hippurate hydrolysis, leucine arylamidase, beta-mannosidase, pyrrolidonyl
arylamidase, urease, Voges-Proskauer test, acid production from  N-acetylglucosamine, amygdalin, arbutin, cellobiose, D-fructose,
beta-gentiobiose, D-glucose (without gas production), D-mannose, melezitose, D-ribose, salicin, sucrose and trehalose.
Can utilize (Biolog GP2) N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, arbutin, cellobiose, D-fructose, alpha-D-glucose, D-mannose, methyl
beta-D-glucoside, salicin, sucrose, trehalose, glycerol, inosine, thymidine and uridine.

Negative results for alkaline phosphatase, arginine dihydrolase, catalase (strongly positive on blood agar), alpha- and
beta-galactosidase, beta-glucuronidase or alpha-methyl-glucosidase, acid production from D-adonitol, D-and L-arabinose, D- or
L-arabitol, dulcitol, erythritol, D- or L-fucose, gluconate, glycerol, glycogen, inositol, inulin, 2- and 5-ketogluconate, lactose, D-lyxose,
D-mannitol, melibiose, methyl alpha-D-glucopyranoside, methyl alpha-D-mannopyranoside, methyl beta-D-xylopyranoside, raffinose,
L-rhamnose, pullulan, D-sorbitol, L-sorbose, starch, D-tagatose, turanose, xylitol or D- or L-xylose.
No utilization of alpha- and beta-cyclodextrin, glycogen, inulin, mannan, Tweens 40 or 80, N-acetyl-beta-D-mannosamine,
