Variable reaction to Lancefield D antisera.
Gram-positive, ovoid cells, arranged in pairs or chains. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies on BHI agar incubated at 35 ºC are white. Weak growth occurs at 10 ºC.
Weak or no growth in broth containing 6.5 % NaCl and at 45 ºC. Tolerate 60 ºC for 30
min, tolerate 40% bile, tolerate and reduce tellurite. Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from a pristine brook in Finland.

Positive results for esculin hydrolysis, gelatin hydrolysis (weakly), Voges-Proskauer test, acid production from amygdalin, arbutin,
cellobiose, esculin, D-fructose, N-acetylglucosamine, glycerol, galactose, D-glucose, gentiobiose, methyl alpha-D-glucoside,
maltose, D-mannose, mannitol, ribose, salicin, sorbitol, sucrose, starch, and trehalose.
Negative results for catalase, hippurate hydrolysis, acid production from adonitol, L-arabitol, dulcitol, erythritol, D- or L-fucose,
glycogen, 2-ketogluconate, inulin, methyl alpha-D-mannoside, melibiose, rhamnose, raffinose, L-sorbose, methyl beta-xyloside.
Variable results for arginine hydrolysis, acid production from D-arabitol, inositol, lactose, D-lyxose, melezitose, D-tagatose, turanose,
xylitol, and D-xylose. Weak or no production of acid from D- and L-arabinose, L-xylose, gluconate and 5-ketogluconate.
