Gram-positive, spherical or ovoid cells, occurring as single cells, pairs of cells, or
chains of three cells. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies on TSA supplemented with 5% sheep blood after incubation for 48 h at 36
ºC are non-pigmented, circular, smooth, shiny, milky, 2-3 mm in diameter. Weak
alpha-haemolytic activity. After incubation for 48 h at 36 ºC on enterococcosel agar
plates (BD), colonies with positive aesculin reaction are formed. Grows at 10 and 45
ºC, and in BHI broth supplemented with 6.5% NaCl. Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from retail chicken meat in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.
Resistant to vancomycin. Susceptible to teicoplanin.

beta-D-glucopyranoside, N-acetylglucosamine, raffinose, D-ribose, salicin, starch, sucrose, D-tagatose, and trehalose.
Negative results for alkaline phosphatase, alanine-phenylalanine-proline arylamidase, catalase, beta-galactosidase,
beta-glucuronidase, hippurate hydrolysis, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, glycine-tryptophan arylamidase, beta-mannosidase,
oxidase, urease, acid production from D- and L-arabinose, D- and L-arabitol, D-adonitol, cyclodextrin, dulcitol, erythritol, D- and
L-fucose, glycogen, gluconate, 5-ketogluconate, inositol, inulin, D-lyxose, D-mannitol, methyl alpha-D-mannopyranoside, methyl
alpha-D-glucoside, pullulan, L-rhamnose, L-sorbose, D-sorbitol, turanose, methyl beta-D-xylopyranoside, xylitol, D- and L-xylose.
