Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive ovoid cocci, 0.8 x 1.5-2.0 µm, occurring singly or in pairs, rarely in chains.
Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies on TSA are 0.5-1 mm in diameter, grey-white, convex, sticky and circular to
slightly irregular after 3 days incubation at 30 ºC. In TSB, growth occurs at 10-37 ºC (not
at 4, 40 and 45 ºC), at pH 6-11 (not at pH 3-5) and in the presence of 1-6% (w/v) NaCl
(not in 7 and 8% (w/v) NaCl). Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from a brewer’s grain used to make silage at the Hsinchu branch of the Livestock Research Institute, Taiwan.

Positive results for acid and alkaline phosphatase, arginine dihydrolase, ammonia production from arginine,
alanyl-phenylalanyl-proline arylamidase, cystine arylamidase, esterase (C4), esterase lipase (C8), glycyl-tryptophan arylamidase,
leucine arylamidase, naphthol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase, pyroglutamic acid arylamidase, valine arylamidase, acid production from
alpha-cyclodextrin, glucose (without gas production), maltose, D-ribose, and D-tagatose.
Negative results for catalase, alpha-fucosidase, alpha-glucosidase, alpha- and beta-galactosidase, beta-glucuronidase, hippurate
hydrolysis, alpha-mannosidase, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, H2S production, indole production, nitrate reduction, oxidase,
trypsin, alpha-chymotrypsin, urease, Voges-Proskauer test, acid production from L-arabinose, D-arabitol,
N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, glycogen, lactose, melibiose, melezitose, methyl beta-D-glucopyranoside, pullulan, raffinose,
D-sorbitol, sucrose, and trehalose.
