Gram-positive, coccoid to rod-shaped cells, occurring in chains. Non-motile.
Colonies on trypticase soy agar supplemented with 5% sheep blood incubated at 35
ºC for 24 h are 1 mm in diameter, grey-white, circular, convex, with an entire margin and
alpha-haemolytic. Growth occurs at 10 ºC, but not at 45 ºC in heart infusion broth. No
gas is produced in MRS broth. Grows in the presence of bile and 6.5% NaCl, but not
pyruvate or tellurite. Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from a man’s foot wound. Resistant to optochin. Sensitive to vancomycin.

Positive results for esculin hydrolysis, beta-glucosidase, alpha-galactosidase, and  alanyl-phenylalanine-proline arylamidase, acid
production from glucose (without gas production), glycerol, maltose, melibiose, methyl alpha-glucopyranoside, raffinose, D-ribose,
sucrose, and trehalose.

Negative results for arginine hydrolysis, alkaline phosphatase, catalase, beta-galactosidase, beta-glucuronidase,
N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, hippurate hydrolysis, beta-mannosidase, pyrrolidonyl arylamidase, starch hydrolysis, urea
hydrolysis, acid production from arabinose, D-arabitol, alpha-cyclodextrin, glycogen, inulin, lactose, D-mannitol, D-sorbitol, sorbose,
tagatose, and xylose.

Variable results for Voges-Proskauer test, acid production from pullulan (weakly).
