Reacts with Lancefield group D antisera.
Gram-positive, ovoid cells, occurring predominantly in pairs and short chains or in
irregular clusters. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies on Columbia agar with 5% defibrinated sheep blood after 24 h incubation at
37 ºC are about 1 mm in diameter, non-pigmented grey and smooth. Weakly
alpha-haemolytic. Growth is observed at 22, 35, 37 and 45 ºC, but not at 10 ºC. Weak
growth in 6.5% (w/v) NaCl. Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from faecal samples of yaks (Bos grunniens) collected from the Qinghai-Tibetan plateau, China.

Description is based mostly on API 20 Strep and API 50 CH results (bioMerieux).
Positive results for alkaline phosphatase, esculin hydrolysis, hippurate hydrolysis, leucine arylamidase, pyrrolidonyl arylamidase,
Voges-Proskauer test, acid production from amygdalin, arbutin, cellobiose, esculin, D-fructose, D-galactose, gluconate D-glucose
(without gas production), beta-gentiobiose, lactose (weakly positive for one of four strains), D-mannose, maltose, ribose, salicin,
starch, trehalose, and D-xylose.
Negative results for arginine hydrolysis, catalase, alpha- and beta-galactosidase, beta-glucuronidase, acid production from D- and
L-arabinose, D-adonitol, D- and L-arabitol, dulcitol, erythritol, D- and L-fucose, glycogen, inositol, inulin, 2- and 5-ketogluconate,
D-lyxose, mannitol, melibiose, melezitose (weakly positive for one of four strains), methyl alpha-D-mannopyranoside, methyl
alpha-D-glucopyranoside, N-acetylglucosamine, raffinose, L-rhamnose, sorbitol, L-sorbose, sucrose, turanose, D-tagatose, methyl
beta-D-xylopyranoside, xylitol, and L-xylose.
