Gram-positive rods (0.5-0.8 x 1.5-6 μm) occurring singly or in pairs. Non-motile.
Nonspore-forming.
Colonies on supplemented MRS agar (0.1% L-cysteine and 2% fructose) are white,
opaque, with smooth to rough surface, 3-4 mm in diameter, under anaerobic
conditions after 3 days at 35 ºC. Grows at 15 and 50 ºC. Facultative anaerobe; grows
well on supplemented MRS agar under aerobic conditions. Can grow weakly in NaCl
5%. Range of pH 3.0-12.0 (in supplemented MRS broth).
Isolated from the honey stomach of the honeybee, Apis mellifera mellifera.
No pathogenicity.

N-acetylglucosamine, inositol, inulin, lactose, D-lyxose, maltose, mannose, melezitose, melibiose, raffinose, rhamnose, ribose, salicin,
sorbitol, sorbose, starch, tagatose, trehalose, turanose, xylitol and xylose.
