Homotypic synonym:
Bombilactobacillus bombi (Killer et al. 2014) Zheng et al. 2020.
Gram-positive slightly curved long rods, 0.7-1.0/2.2-7.2 µm, occur singly or in pairs.
Non-motile. Nonspore-forming.
Colonies on MRS agar are cream, disc-shaped or triangular in profile , 1.2-2.8 mm in
diameter, under anaerobic conditions after 3 days at 35 ºC. Best growth in anaerobic
TPY and MRS agar or broth, weaker growth under microaerophilic conditions on
same media. Grows at temperature range 20-47 ºC (optimally at 37
ºC), pH range
4.0-8.5.
Isolated from the digestive tract of laboratory-reared bumblebee queens, Bombus terrestris.
No pathogenicity.
Description is based mostly on API 50 CHL, API ZYM, Rapid ID 32A (bioMerieux) results.
