Gram-positive rods, 0.6-1 / 2-5 µm, occurring singly, in pairs or in short chains.
Non-spore-forming. Non-motile.
Colonies are white, low-convex with entire edges, 1.0 mm in diameter on MRS agar.
Facultative anaerobe. Grows at 15 ºC; not at 45 ºC. Grows at pH 8.0; not at 3.5 or 9.0.
No growth in 4% NaCl media.
Isolated from fermented tea leaves (miang), Thailand.
Undetermined.
Description is based mostly on API 50 CH results. Homofermentative.
Positive results for acid production from amygdalin, L-arabinose, cellobiose, esculin, D-fructose, galactose, glucose (without gas
production), maltose, mannitol, mannose, salicin, and D-xylose.
Negative results for arginine deamination, catalase, acid production from adonitol, arbutin, D-arabinose, D- and L-arabitol, dulcitol,
erythritol, D- and L-fucose, gentiobiose, gluconate, 2- and 5-ketogluconate, glycerol, glycogen, inositol, inulin, lactose, D-lyxose,
melibiose, melezitose, N-acetylglucosamine, methyl alpha-D-glucopyranoside, methyl alpha-D-xyloside,
methylalpha-D-mannopyranoside, raffinose, rhamnose, ribose, L-sorbose, sorbitol, starch, sucrose, turanose, D-tagatose, trehalose,
methyl beta-D-xylopyranoside, xylitol, and L-xylose.
