Gram-positive rods (0.6-0.8 x 1.3-3.5 μm) occurring singly and in pairs; some
strains contain filamentous cells. Nonmotile.
Colonies on MRS agar are white, smooth, convex and 2 mm in diameter. No growth at
15 ºC. Variable growth at 45 ºC. Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from horse faecal specimens as one of the predominant intestinal lactobacilli.

melibiose, raffinose, and sucrose.

glycerol, inositol, melezitose, sorbose, starch, and trehalose.
