Gram-positive rods, 1-5 µm length. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Grows in 3 days on MRS agar at 25 ºC. Grows at 15-37 ºC (optimum 25 ºC). Can grow
in pH 5.0-9.0 (optimum pH 7.0-8.0) and NaCl 0-5%.
Isolated from a traditional fermented food in Korea, kimchi.
Undetermined.
Homofermentative.
Description is based mostly on API 50 CHL (bioMerieux) results.
Positive results for acid production from amygdalin, arbutin, cellobiose, esculin, D-fructose, galactose, gentibiose, glucose (without
gas production), lactose, maltose, mannose, salicin, sucrose, D-tagatose, trehalose, turanose, and N-acetylglucosamine.
Negative results for catalase, oxidase, acid production from adonitol, D- and L-arabitol, D- and L-arabinose, dulcitol, erythritol, D- and
L-fucose, glycogen, gluconate, 2- and 5-ketogluconate, glycerol, inositol, inulin, D-lyxose, mannitol, melezitose, melibiose, raffinose,
rhamnose, ribose, sorbose, sorbitol, starch, methyl alpha-D-mannopyranoside, methyl alpha-D-xyloside, methyl
beta-D-xylopyranoside, xylitol, D- and L-xylose.
