Gram-positive rods, 1.0/1.5 µm, occurring as single cells or short chains.
Nonspore-forming.
colonies are white, smooth, convex, 1.5-2.0 mm in diameter after 72 h of incubation
on mMRS agar at 30 ºC under anaerobic conditions. Microaerophilic or aerotolerant.
Can grow at 15-37 ºC. Range of pH 5.0-9.0.
Isolated fromsourdough, fermented cereal foods in Italy.

Description is based on API 50 CHL results ( after 48 h incubation at 30 ºC).
Positive results for beta-glucosidase, fermentation of L-arabinose, glucose (acid without gas production), and maltose.
Negative results for fermentation of adonitol, amygdalin, arbutin, D-arabinose, D- and L-arabitol, cellobiose, dulcitol, erythritol,
aesculin, L- and D-fucose, gentiobiose, 2- and 5-ketogluconate, glycerol, glycogen, inositol, inulin, lactose, mannitol, melezitose,
melibiose, methyl alpha-D-glucopyranoside, methyl alpha-D-mannopyranoside, methyl alpha-D-xyloside, methyl
beta-D-xylopyranoside, raffinose, rhamnose, salicin, sorbitol, L-sorbose, starch, sucrose, D-tagatose, trehalose, turanose, xylitol,
D-and L-xylose.
Variable results for fermentation of D-fructose, galactose, gluconate (acid without gas production), D-lyxose, mannose,
N-acetylglucosamine and ribose.
